A protein-packed pumpkin spice smoothie perfect for the health-conscious lover of fall. Ideal for a quick breakfast or a midday snack, this smoothie boasts the flavors of fall: pumpkin, apple, and spices.
Who is ready for fall?! With the chilly weather starting up here in Columbus, OH it’s time to start bringing out the flavors of the season.
I love this smoothie because it’s basically the food version of my favorite fall traditions - apple picking and pumpkin patch going!
The apple and frozen banana provide a sweetness that will satisfy your sweet tooth without using sugar or artificial sweeteners.
If you’re not a big apple fan, use an additional frozen banana in place of the apple. If you are using the apple, leave. that. skin. on. Your body will love the antioxidants and nutrients it provides!
The number of smoothies I’ve made while working from home has definitely surged in the past couple months! I love making a smoothie for an afternoon pick-me-up or for a quick breakfast. Frozen bananas have easily become a staple in our household, as they give any smoothie a perfect sweetness and thickness.
Protein powders - what’s the scoop?
Unfortunately, most protein powders are filled with sugars and ingredients you can’t pronounce, but are marketed as “health foods.”
Oh. So what should I look for in a protein powder?
Simplicity is usually the answer when in doubt! Look for powders that have one ingredient - the protein itself.
Whey? Casein? Bone broth? There are so many kinds. Which is best for me?
Bone broth protein powder or plant-based protein powders (like pea or hemp).
Recipe
Prep Time: 5 mins
Cook Time: 2 mins
Total Time: 7 mins
Yield: 2 smoothies
Ingredients
- 1 frozen banana
- ½ c pumpkin
- 1 scoop protein
- ½ tsp pumpkin pie spice
- Medium apple - quartered and cut into chunks. Leave that skin on!
- ½ c unsweetened almond milk
- 2 Tbsp almond butter
Directions
- Peel banana and freeze. I always keep some frozen bananas in our freezer for smoothies, but if you don’t have any on hand, cut the banana into smaller pieces before freezing to speed up the process.
- Place all ingredients in the blender.
- Start the blender on low and slowly increase to high speed. Blend on high speed for 1-2 minutes, or until you get your desired consistency.
- Pour and enjoy! If you’re wanting to get fancy, dust with some extra pumpkin pie spice.
