The perfect way to spice up boring ground chicken. These buffalo chicken burgers are so simple you can make them on even the busiest of days! The result is a yummy, healthy burger with just the right amount of heat and buffalo flavor.
Let’s be honest, oftentimes when you are trying to “eat clean,” your day-to-day menu becomes boring: plain ground meat, plain brown rice, plain veggies, etc. I’ve been there. Although it gets the job done, it’s no fun!
Spice up (pun intended) your ground meat with this buffalo chicken burger recipe! It’s great for dinner, and it’s also tasty when reheated for lunches during the week.
Choose a clean hot sauce for this chicken burger
Be mindful of the hot sauce you choose for these chicken burgers. Clean hot sauces (and other condiments) should only have a handful of ingredients that we all recognize.
I use Frank's Redhot Original Cayenne Pepper Sauce in these because it doesn’t have the canola oil, xanthan gum, or artificial “flavors” that most buffalo sauces have in them.
Frank's sauce ingredients: aged cayenne red peppers, distilled vinegar, water, salt, and garlic powder.
Wait, what’s wrong with canola oil in my hot sauce?
Did you know that canola oil has to be deodorized before it’s even able to be sold? During this process it’s refined and bleached with harmful chemicals and high heat. This process compromises the quality of the oil.
What’s the purpose of the almond flour?
The almond flour is in place of an ingredient like breadcrumbs, as it helps bind the meat together! I prefer almond flour because it’s a yummy, gluten free option.
How should I cut the onions and parsley?
I personally like to cut the onions in slightly larger chunks because I love the crunchy texture it adds to the chicken burgers. If you aren’t a big onion fan, you can chop them finely or skip them altogether.
I would recommend finely chopping the parsley so you get a consistent flavor in each bite.
Buffalo chicken burger add-ons
Throw a fried egg on top of the chicken burger to add an extra rich, filling element. If you’re feeling frisky, throw the egg on it and eat it for breakfast. Nothing wrong with that! Also, I’m a sucker for avocado mayo so it’s my condiment of choice for this buffalo chicken burger.
Recipe
Prep Time: 7 mins
Cook Time: 12 mins
Total Time: 19 mins
Yield: 5 burgers
Ingredients
- 1 egg
- 1 lb pasture raised or organic ground chicken
- ¼ cup hot sauce (more or less depending on your heat tolerance)
- ¼ cup blanched almond flour
- ¼ cup chopped red onion
- 2 Tbsp chopped parsley (optional)
Recommended (but optional) toppings:
- Tomato
- Onion
- Fried egg
- Avocado mayo
- Lettuce
Directions
- Beat egg in a small bowl.
- In a medium size mixing bowl combine ground chicken, hot sauce, almond flour, egg, onion, and parsley (optional) and stir well. The mixture will be slightly runny. That’s okay! The chicken burgers will form together once cooked.
- Spray a medium-sized skillet with cooking spray and place over medium-low heat.
- Scoop ½ cup of mixed chicken burger onto the skillet to form each patty.
- Cook for about 6 minutes on each side, or until the burger reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Serve immediately. You can eat the burger plain, put it on a bun, or use lettuce to make an “ice burger” like I did! See the ingredients list above for some of my recommended toppings.
